Entry 8: Camazotz

Then, we tessered again, this time onto Camazotz. It was here the real adventure began. Mrs Whatsit told us that Father was here. This must be it! However, Mrs Whatsit said that the planet was dangerous, and I guess that was true. Even worse, the Mrs Ws said that they could not help us but could see us, and we could not see them or ask them for help. Is this sort of a test? But if we succeeded......
When we went into town, we saw that the children were playing with skipping ropes and balls. The houses were neat and identical. yet, something seems amiss in Camazotz. After a while, we found out that everybody did everything exactly at the same time. How do they do it? We could never have done it like that if we tried. (But I don't want to try.)
Suddenly, we saw a different scene unfold. one of the boys was bouncing his ball rather badly. He sometimes dropped it and had to ran after it; other times, he threw the ball up in the air and tried to catch it. Then, his mother came out, put her hand to her mouth and dashed into the house with the boy. What is going on? What is she afraid of?
After that, we saw a boy coming down the street on something like the combination of a bicycle and motorcycle. He was the newspaper boy as he claimed. And, like the children playing, there was something wrong with this. When he threw the newspaper, it flew at identically the same arc at each doorway and landed at an identical spot. How does he do that? then, we had a rather weird conversation. Calvin said that the whole thing smells and I definitely agree with him. No wonder Mrs Whatsit said that the planet was dangerous. Even Charles can't get in at Camazotz. I wonder...
